It is about time I started getting serious about training for next year's crossfit games. I think most people still underestimate the amount that needs to go into preparing to do well in such a demanding sport that tests the unknown and unknowable. This is a good thing for those willing to put in the work...bad for those who are not as willing.
I think first and foremost, diet will need to be addressed. Quality and Quantity both need to be understood and appreciated if your truly looking to optimize your performance. Many top performers (at least the one's whose diet seems to have a stronger effect on their performance) have been shifting towards a gluten-free paleo diet neglecting the weighing and measuring of the zone. This is understandable, as always keeping track of your "blocks" as they become complicated with dropping carb blocks, multiplying fat, and utilizing post wod fuel recovery and setting yourself up well for the next day's wod can leave many with a headache. Few like OPT and BROPT can manage to do both well, and I believe that is where there is huge advantage.
This month, I am going gluten-free paleo with 17 blocks protein, 15 blocks carb, and 3 x fat and 10 grams of EPA/DHA (that's a manly amount of fish oil!) I plan on sticking to this for at least a month, however I will reassess my fat block amounts 2 weeks from today.
After 1 month, I'll also reassess how I feel mentally during to mornings and afternoons to see if adrenal fatigue may actually be a problem of mine. I think fixing the quality of food I eat as well as upping the fish oil may help me tremendously by then, but if not Mr. Wolf helped out some possibilities for a back-up plan...
